sec 5.3 Homework 4 a,c,e

Hi guys,

So I went through these questions today after school, and wanted to show you a faster, easier way to work through them.  So 4a and 4c, are quick, exact solutions using the equations only and 4e is an explanation based on what we did in class today, using a table and a graph.

So here is 4a.  I was just using the computer's built in mic so it's pretty quiet on this one.  The rest will be louder.

Here is 4c.  I think you'll find the volume a little louderat least,  if not better.

Finally, here is 4e.  In this one I used the table of values and a graph to get an estimate of the value of x that makes the equation true.  This one is a little longer.

Chapter 5!

Hello students,

I've prepared a number of little videos to make sure you are clear, from the start, on what we are doing in this chapter.  I hope your parents will also take a look at these and lend a hand if you are experiencing any difficulty.

These are my interpretations of the starting exercises, along with the examples in sec 5.1 and the first three homework questions.

Here are some thoughts on the Dragon Boat questions.

3.3 Scale Factors

Sounds like Mr Mason had some great real world examples for this section with the model, and plans for the climbing wall.

A couple of things to note here.

Here is another site that might help you gain a better understanding of scale diagrams.
Try the practice page at the end.  It only has 3 questions.

3.2 Determining Similarity

As you learned in class, corresponding polygons are similar if the ratios of all corresponding sides are the same AND if corressponding angles are the same.

Check out the following examples to see how you might determine if to figures are similar.

Welcome grade 9's

Hello Grade 9's.  This is a site that I will use to post little videos that will add to what I am teaching in the class.  Please comment (respectfully!) and let me know if this helps you or not.
